CHRISTMAS CRAFTS

1.One year, when both my parents had lost their jobs, I remember using pieces of taped together construction paper to make this super-easy Christmas Tree. http://www.enchantedlearning.com/crafts/christmas/papertree/ is where I got the super easy instructions.
2.Becuase it doesn't rain or snow, or much less go below freezing temperatures where I live, I found these "Shelfsicles" really nice.
http://familyfun.go.com/crafts/shimmering-shelfsicles-674963/
3.I love it when my friends find creative ways to wrap gifts! They look SO nice under my tree. You just have to open them real carefully. There are really good ideas here: http://www.realsimple.com/holidays-entertaining/gifts/wrapping/creative-wrapping-ideas-10000001137821/index.html, here: http://www.countryliving.com/crafts/projects/gift-wrapping-1207, or here: http://familycrafts.about.com/od/giftwrap/CreativeGiftWrapIdeas.htm
That is all for today!

Weekly Newsletter

It's almost Christmas and everybody is rushing to buy presents. I often find myself unable to find a suitable present for my friends and family, so here are a few suggestions:
#1:Chocolates. Everyone loves them, right? I that person is trying to lose weight or looks like he/she needs to, then don't even think about it.
#2: A good Christmas book. Over the years, I have quite a collection of Christmas Story Books from when I was little, and also quite a few novels about Christmas from a certain friend of mine.
#3: A Game. These days all children want is Wii Game this, DS Game that, Xbox Game this, Computer Game that. All those are kinda expensive if you are looking for something cheap or under ten dollars, get them a good old board game like Monopoly, or Life, their parents will be pleased to see their child not using andy electronics.
Well I can't think of anything else, so I'll post tomorrow.

Marta Becket and Death Valley

So I went to Death Valley for vacation, and FYI it is in Southern California in USA. I had to ride on the car from San Diego, the most southern tip of California to Death Valley, which is about 6-8 hours. There is an inn, called Amargosa Opera House and Hotel. Marta Becket, the owner, is a world famous singer/actress/dancer/choreographer/painter that sings at the Opera House. She performs on Saturdays and Sundays, and also Holidays. She painted the interior of the hotel, and she's really good. (which means better than me and I'm considered very good) Interesting facts:
  • Badwater Basin, which is located in Death Valley, is the lowest point in North America
  • It is 282 feet below sea level
  • It was named Badwater Basin because of its ill tasting water
  • Death Valley is considered the hottest, most driest place in the US
  • It used to be full of Borax (White Gold) Mines
If you have an idea about what to write about next time, please post it as a comment.

Rain GO AWAY!!! What do do when it's raining

SO right now it is raining in San Diego, so here is a list of things to do when it's raining.
1.So I decided that one fun thing to do is make a rainbow. (Don't forget the pot 'o gold!) You can make it out of paper, or candy, or even a cake!
2. If you don't feel like it, you make your own REAL rainbow. http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Rainbow
3. Try to balance something on your nose or outstretched hand.
4. Make a homemade birthday card, Christmas card, etc. Get creative. Find websites that teach you how to make pop up cards like http://robertsabuda.com/popmakesimple.asp
5. Make your own list of things to do while it's raining, or even things to do IN the rain. Post it as a comment.
6. Help me think of something to write about tomorrow and post is as a comment.
7. Try painting in the rain.
8. Look at the window. Pick two water droplets and see who reaches the bottom of the window first.
9. Sing "rain, rain go away." Or other songs. Or silly songs.
10. Try to memorize a funny poem like the ones Edward Lear writes. Or write a poem. Or a book.

I Found Something Cool...

I found this AWESOME blog called Lists Galore! at http://listsgalore.blogspot.com/ Here is a list of brainteasers I found on it.

11 brain teasers

Q1. A murderer is condemned to death. He has to choose between three rooms: The first is full of raging fires, the second is full of assassins with loaded guns, and the third is full of lions that haven't eaten in 3 years. Which room is safest for him?

Q2. A woman shoots her husband. Then she holds him under water for over 5 minutes. Finally, she hangs him. But 5 minutes later they both go out together and enjoy a wonderful dinner together. How can this be?

Q3. A magician was boasting one day at how long he could hold his breath under water. His record was 6 minutes. A kid that was listening said, "that's nothing, I can stay under water for 10 minutes using no type of equipment or air pockets!" The magician told the kid if he could do that, he'd give him $10,000. The kid did it and won the money. Can you figure out how?

Q4. There are two plastic jugs filled with water. How could you put all of this water into a barrel, without using the jugs or any dividers, and still tell which water came from which jug?

Q5. What is black when you buy it, red when you use it, and grey when you throw it away?

Q6. Can you name three consecutive days without using the words Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday?

Q7. This is an unusual paragraph. I'm curious how quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it? It looks so plain you would think nothing was wrong with it! In fact, nothing is wrong with it! It is unusual though. Study it, and think about it, but you still may not find anything odd. But if you work at it a bit, you might find out! Try to do so without any coaching!

Q8. You are participating in a race. You overtake the second person. What position are you in?

Q9. If you overtake the last person, then you are...?

Q10. (in your head!) Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000. Now add 30. Add another 1000. Now add 20. Now add another 1000. Now add 10. What is the total?

Q11. Mary's father has five daughters: 1. Nana, 2. Nene, 3. Nini, 4. Nono. What is the name of the fifth daughter?

ANSWERS:

A1. The third. Lions that haven't eaten in three years are dead.

A2. The woman was a photographer. She shot a picture of her husband, developed it, and hung it up to dry.

A3. The kid filled a glass of water and held it over his head for 10 minutes.

A4. Colour and Freeze them first. Take them out of the jugs and put the ice in the barrel. You will be able to tell which water came from which jug.

A5. The answer is charcoal. In Homer Simpson's words: mmmm... Barbecue.

A6. Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.

A7. The letter "e", which is the most common letter in the English language, does not appear once in the long paragraph

A8. If you answer that you are first, then you are absolutely wrong! If you overtake the second person and you take his place, you are second!

A9. If you answered that you are second to last, then you are wrong again. Tell me, how can you overtake the LAST person?!

A10. Did you get 5000? The correct answer is actually 4100. Don't believe it? Check with your calculator!

A11. Nunu? NO! Of course not. The fifth daughter is Mary. Read the question again.

Benison???

This is from dictionary.com the word of the day

benison

\BEN-uh-suhn; -zuhn\ , noun;
1.
Blessing; benediction.
Quotes:
In the beginning, Gibran's small estate was worth some $50,000, benison enough for a village of ten thousand souls.
-- Stefan Kanfer, "But is it not strange that elephants will yield -- and that The Prophet is still popular?",New York Times, June 25, 1972
Yet to be with him was a benison, a curiously exhilarating and anarchic experience, as the lightning celerity of his thought processes took you on a kind of helter-skelter ride of surreal non-sequiturs, sudden accesses of emotion and ribald asides, made all the more bizarre for being uttered in those honeyed tones by the impeccably elegant gent before you.
-- Simon Callow, "A life full of frolics", The Guardian, May 19, 2001
Origin:
Benison comes from Old French beneison, from Latin benedictio, from benedicere, "to bless," from bene, "well" + dicere, "to say."
Wait, I have more!!!
So a friend sent me this email about this... Well read it! HAHAHA

I knew a person that was so
stupid that.......

she called me to get my phone number.

She spent
20 minutes looking at the orange juice box because it said 'concentrate.'

she tried to put M&M's in alphabetical order..

she sent me a fax with a stamp on it.

she tried to drown a fish.

she thought a quarterback was a refund....

she got locked in a grocery store and starved to death...

she tripped over a cordless phone.

she took a ruler to bed to see how long she slept.

she asked for a price check at the Dollar Store.

she studied for a blood test..

she thought Meow Mix was a CD for cats...

when she heard that 90% of all crimes occur around the home, she moved.

when she missed the 44 bus, she took the 22 bus twice instead..

when she took you to the airport and saw a sign that said 'Airport Left' she turned around and went home

Inside Look on My Life

I'm not a particularly organized person, but my house is clean. I'm severeley allergic to dust, which has become a problem. I'm also allergic to shrimp and lobsters. Isn't that sad? And here I go, rambling on about my problems. I'm a manga and anime addict, I learn 4 languages, including English, which are Japanese, Latin, Chinese, and English (Rosetta Stone really does work well). I love all needle crafts, and art too. I spent the time before school on manga, at MangaFox. I live really close to a park, and I go there to read sometimes, and to do stuff. I like hiking. I guess I don't have many problems in life. I guess...

Turkeyful Thanksgiving: Origami Turkey

I'm going to someone else's house for thanksgiving, but you can use these cute and festive turkeys to decorate your table for guests. I got a lot of results when I searched for an origami turkey but I picked one I particularly thought looked like a turkey. It is by Anita Barbour, and she has made many origami how-tos. Find more of her origami instructions at http://spiraclemusic.com/ and press Press Here for Anita Barbour's Origami, then press Links to AFB Diagrams. There are four pages for the turkey, and it's kinda hard so you might have to persevere. I'm not going to post the instructions here, so you have to go to it yourself.
That's all for today! (I think)

Origami and Playlist

I made an origami daffodil today. It literally took me hours to figure the instructions out! Ugh. I stared at the diagrams and instructions, until it gave me a severe headache. But I found a savior! jonakashima and joostlangeveld's channels both have amazing origami tutorials, and awesome projects. They are genius.

I'm also introducing a few of my favorite songs,

Cinderella-Steven Curtis Chapman

If I Die Young-The Band Perry

Everything-Michael Buble

The Real Me-Natalie Grant

Your Heart Will Lead You Home-Kenny Loggins
